1) Setting up your Voice Mailbox:

Think of a 4-10 digit passcode that is easy for you to remember, but hard for someone else to guess. Your passcode insures privacy and confidentiality. Think about the greeting you would like to have your caller hear.

Be sure you are in a relatively quiet atmosphere before recording your greeting.

  1. Dial 386-5000 from the telephone number where your voice mailbox is assigned.
  2. The attendant will say "Hello mailbox (the last four digits of your telephone number). Please enter your passcode. 1,2,3,4 is the default temporary passcode.
  3. The attendant then says, "Welcome to your voice message center. I will be helping you set up your own personal mailbox. First, we will set a passcode to keep your mailbox private. Second, we will record a greeting for your callers. Finally we will record your name in your own voice. I will tell you what keys to press. Let's get started."
  4. Follow the instructions of the attendant.

2) Checking Messages:

You know when you have a message in your mailbox if you hear a "stutter dial tone" when you pick up your phone. "Stutter dial tone" is interrupted dial tone for the first 10 seconds after you pick up your telephone receiver.

Checking your messages from the phone number your voice mail is assigned to (i.e., if your phone number is 386-1234, then your mailbox number is 1234).

  1. From your phone, the one that is the same as your voice mail box number, dial 386-5000.
  2. The attendant will say: "Hello, (your name), please enter your passcode."
  3. Enter the 4-10 digit passcode by using the numbers on your telephone keypad.
